There are a couple connections i have found that i think my group and I have experience just like Richard Garfield. In " The Design Evolution of Magic. The gathering". He says that his first design wasn't easy (Pg 540 )and that there were so many mess ups on the card game. His first design was a card game. In the class right my group and I are making a card game where the main point of the game is to discard. So I can relate to Richard Garfield on how it's not easy making a game design let alone a card games. Another connection I made was when he talked about " To Build a Better Deck" (Playtesting a deck master game is difficult and I know that they are different types of games. One is a discard game and the other is a deckmaster game. But at this moment we are struggling with making our cards for the game because we need to focus on how to balance the deck. You don't want to make your card too overpowering or have too much of something because then you will get confused and the game will take longer. We are aiming for either a five minute to ten minute game so that you can play multiple rounds of the game.
Our game is called " Escape" we named it this because we have to make our game spooky theme. It basic off a haunted house and how you have escape before someone else does. We will have a card called the escape card where it has two items on it. You have to find these two item before they can escape but wait theres more. You also have to have a pair of 2 cards so you can discard your cards. It is hard because we don't know how to change the cards so that it is actually playable. When you play a game you do't think of how it was made or designed. Like, how every card or characters matter and how what they do can affect the game. I have seen that ever since i started in this class it's crazy because you have to think about so many things. You also cant be afraid to fail because you're not going to be perfect at everything you do when you only do of a couple of times.
